10K vs 14K vs 18K: which to choose?
10K gold (41.7% pure gold): the hardest and most resistant. Paler yellow color. Ideal for rough daily wear, new piercings, and a tight budget. Excellent for studs you never take off.
14K gold (58.5% pure gold): the perfect balance. Classic golden yellow color, good hardness, hypoallergenic for almost all skin. It's our best-selling karat and the one we recommend for most clients.
18K gold (75% pure gold): intense yellow color, softer (watch out for knocks), maximum quality and value. Ideal for gift pieces, important events, or as an investment.
Why solid gold and not plated for piercings?
This is important: a new piercing is an open wound. Gold plated, "gold-filled," or cheap surgical steel release nickel and other metals that cause infection, keloids, and dark scars. Solid 14K or 18K gold is chemically inert, doesn't react with sweat or lymph, and lets the piercing heal cleanly. For freshly done piercings we recommend 14K gold studs with a push-back post.

Closures: which is safest?
Push-back (butterfly): the most common, comfortable, and quick. Safe for daily wear if you check that the butterfly is firm. Screw-back: the safest of all, won't fall off even while sleeping. Recommended for diamonds and valuable pieces. Latch (huggie/hoop): the hoop closes on itself, practically impossible to open on its own. Ball clasp: traditional on candongas, requires periodic checking.
